Student must meet following entry requirements to study at AIMT.
Minimum age requirements:
Students must be of age 18 or over at commencement of this course.
Academic requirements:
To enter this qualification, applicants should have successfully completed year an equivalent of Australian Year 12.
English language requirements:
International students applying for this course either off-shore or on-shore will require:
- Either a minimum IELTS (General) test score of 6.0 or equivalent for direct entry into a VET course;
or, IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent with an ELICOS course (up to 10 weeks) to be taken before the main VET course;
or, IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent with an ELICOS course (up to 20 weeks) to be taken before the main VET course;
IELTS equivalent tests include PTE and TOEFL. Results older than two years are not acceptable.
or, Pearson Test of English Academic – score 50
or, Cambridge English: Advanced CAE from Cambridge ESOL Test Scores –162
or, TOEFL internet based test – Score 46
OR
- to provide evidence that they have studied in English for at least five years in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom or United States
OR
- to provide evidence that, within two years of their application date, they have successfully completed in Australia a foundation course or a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education
In case of onshore international students, where IELTS or Equivalent evidence has expired, the student will be required to meet the English language requirements by undertaking AIMT’s internal Cambridge English Test.
– Or, Certificate IV or Higher completed in Australia, or
– Tertiary studies in medium of English
Training Need Analysis:
All students must undertake a pre-training review (training need analysis) which aims to identify their training needs and suitability through questions on previous education or training, purpose and relevance of the courses, conducted before the enrolment. This review can be done by completing a questionnaire or via an interview by a designated AIMT staff . Interview also aims to identify possible RPL opportunities and confirm oral communication skills.
Through the training need analysis questionnaire/interview, student will demonstrate that they have necessary skills to successfully complete the course.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy Test (LLN):
All students are required to undertake AIMT designated language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) test mapped at Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF).
The ACSF level required for each course is as below:

AUR40116 Certificate IV in Automotive Management ACSF Level 3
AUR50116 Diploma of Automotive Management ACSF Level 3
BSB51918 Diploma of Leadership and Management ACSF Level 3
BSB60420 Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management ACSF Level 3
AUR40216 Certificate IV Automotive Diagnosis ACSF Level 3
If students do not meet LLN requirements at the time of orientation, students will be provided with appropriate strategies to assist them with their learning.
Additional Consideration
Access to Materials and Equipment
Although AIMT will provide access to learning and delivery resources during classroom hours however to work on assignments and tasks for self-study all leaners are expected to have access to a laptop or computer with the Windows 7 operating system or higher. Students must have an active email address for communication and be contactable by phone (mobile or landline) and by mail (postal address). All leaners are expected to have access to MS office application such as Microsoft Word, an email platform.
Physical Attribute to Consider
This course requires training and working in automotive workshop or simulated environment which may require physical activities such as working in a confined space, doing heavy lifting or standing for prolonged period of time. Student will therefore need to consider their physical fitness and attributes to undertake this course.
